it will bring up the flavor but very unappetizing color when you marinate the meat in it, had people over for dinner they did not want to eat not even taste when they saw the dark black color and it has a color that will stick to your hand when mixing ,looks like food coloring

I tried the spice both after cooking a burger and before broiling a steak and the flavor was minimal. I used it heavily too. The meat was blackened but there was only a slight hint of charcoal flavor plus the other stated ingredients.

Excellent Charcoal Taste

This is a very good addition especially when used on an electric grill. Gives a very good "cooked over coals" flavor
No Flavor for a cheap price.

If you want to blacken an item this is the best product I have seen. If you are looking for a Charcoal flavor you will be needing to get some charcoal.

Not What I Expected

I wanted something that would taste like it came right off the charcoal grill. I purchased this seasoning hoping it would be similar to a steak I got in a small restaurant in SD. I put it on a nice strip steak to pan fry. Here is what I disliked.
1. It completely turns your protein black. That alone is a turn off, as it gives the appearance of being burned. Also, it hides the true color so that it is hard to judge when to turn, etc.
2. Although the taste is not terrible, it definitely is not a strong (if any) charcoal taste. It is MOStlY MSG and mix of normal steak seasonings.
I'm not trying to put down American Spice Co, just wanted people to know the reality.
