Willie Gebhardt began the Gebhardt Mexican Foods Company in New Braunfels, Texas, in the late 1800’s. Gebhardt’s Chili Powder as been credited with introducing Americans to Texas style chili and Tex-Mex flavor famous in the Southwest. Originally sold as seasoning or by the pot, Gebhardt quickly expanded his business to include canned meats and sauces. He also introduced several southwest and Tex-Mex cookbooks and recipes. By 1908 Gebhardt had successfully developed and marketed the first canned chili. Today, Gebhardt’s Chili Powder and Chili is known throughout the world as the only product that delivers “That Real Mexican Tang.”
