Similar to, but not quite as spicy as the galangal root, ginger root is often used in a variety of Asian-inspired dishes. Try using it in a stir fry with water chestnuts, shallots, and a bit of garlic. It also adds a hint of spicy flavor to otherwise bland foods and is a great ingredient when cooking seafood. Ginger root also has some medicinal purposes. It can help settle an upset stomach when mixed into beverages such as ginger ale and it may help arthritis and heart disease.
